Chuck Donohoe
Chief Intellectual Property Officer

Chuck Donohoe was formerly Executive Vice President and General Patent Counsel for Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of semiconductor, telecommunications and consumer products. He was responsible for all licensing and litigation activities at Samsung and presided over a large staff of attorneys located in Korea and Washington, D.C. He also was responsible for establishing a patent acquisition program at Samsung. When he first joined Samsung in 1989, it had only one issued US semiconductor Patent. He initially purchased patent portfolios to jump-start Samsung's IP program, then developed an internal patent prosecution program which resulted in Samsung being ranked as high as fourth in the world in issued patents by 2000. He has negotiated hundreds of patent license and technology transfer agreements.

Prior to joining Samsung, he was a partner in the Washington D.C. law firm of Cushman, Darby and Cushman (now part of Pillsbury, Winthrop). At Cushman, he was heavily involved in ITC and District Court litigation matters.

Mr. Donohoe graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1964 and with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1965. He graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 1970 and is now a member of the IP Advisory Board at George Washington University Law School.
